Centenary of San Antonio Archdiocese Celebrated at Hilton
Catholic Archdiocese marks 100 years since its formation in 1874 with a December 8 Mass by Archbishop Francis J. Furey at the Hilton Palacio del Rio. The centennial includes an Assembly discussing the church’s future, as archdiocese history recalls growth from 47,000 Catholics in 1880 to over 1.25 million in 1973. Nine deaneries plan Centennial Festivities starting October 1974.

Texas Employers Get Unemployment Tax Rate Cut for 1974
The Texas Employment Commission says thousands of Texas employers will see a 0.3 percent cut in unemployment insurance payroll taxes for 1974 due to a strong unemployment trust fund. About 60,000 to 64 percent of covered firms will pay at the minimum 0.1 percent rate, with the reduction taking effect in April 1974 after October 1 fund total exceeded 320 million.

Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs Josephine Vest Havrda age 81 8 months 10 days who died November 29 1973 at Trinity Lutheran Home Shiner.
