Tides Open Cedar Bayou Pass Through Natural Action and Repair Funds
Tides and winds opened a new cut in Cedar Bayou near Rockport enhancing the Gulf to Mesquite Bay water exchange. TX Parks and Wildlife authorized 60 000 dollars to deepen the famed pass but nature already extended its life by fast tides from Hurricane Inez and a strong early season norther. Ernest Simmons notes a six month to longer pass life with good flow. Cedar Bayou lies 20 miles northeast of Rockport between St Josephs and Matagorda Islands feeding Mesquite Bay and the Gulf.
