Mutt And Jeff Softball Finals Draw Praise And Profit

The Mutts and Jeffs played two championship softball games on a Thursday night with the Jeffs winning 10 to 8 after a prior 17 to 16 Mutts victory. Proceeds benefited the Shiner P T A, netting $59.29 from both games and stands including $38.90 from a first game offering, $15.25 from a second, and $5.14 from a drink stand.

Shiner Rotarians To Dallas Fair For Rotary Day

Shiner Rotary Club joins Rotary Fellowship Day at the 1950 State Fair of Texas on Oct 20. Dallas hosts invite about 15 000 Rotarians from 255 clubs with tickets to South Pacific and Ice Cycles of 1951. Rotarians register at the Friendship House for attendance credit and box luncheon before a mid day ride to the Auditorium. The State Fair runs Oct 7 22 boasting the All American Jersey Show and a vast array of shows and exhibits.

Lavaca and Gonzales counties sent a bus convoy of 56 youths to Army physical examinations in San Antonio on Tuesday August 22 the eighth draft call in the current emergency. White elected Commissioner of Agriculture in Texas runoff

John C. White of Wichita Falls defeated 10-term incumbent J. E. McDonald for Texas commissioner of agriculture in the Democratic runoff. Final bureau tallies show White 351,149 to McDonald 340,075 with 12,000 votes uncounted. Ramsey led lieutenant governor race, and Meade Griffin topped for Supreme Court Place 3.
