Texas voters approved repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and legalized 3.2 beer statewide. With 239 counties reported, repeal led 279,567 to 165,089 and beer legalization 283,725 to 155,419. The state becomes the twenty third to back national repeal as 180 of 209 dry counties chose to remain dry.
Weimar and Shiner school superintendents have swapped posts with Sept T H McDonald moving to Shiner and T H Leslie taking the Weimar job. The change prompts regret for McDonald’s departure, while Leslie is praised for years of service and is set to reside in McDonald’s former home as both communities wish them well.
Shiner records show repeal totals near 744 with 21 against at West Box and 372 to 16 at East Box for repeal and cheer amendment 335 to 16. Bonds, Home Rule, and Homestead tallies are listed with box presiders named. General election figures show Shiner totaled 864 in November and 1133 in August 1932 primary.
A family reunion honored Mr. Louis Ehlers on his 75th birthday last Sunday. In a large yard under trees, a barbecue was shared with all children and grandchildren present. Several relatives traveled from out of town including £. J. Tomasco and families, the Weins, Max Ehlers, E. C. Kettner of Houston, and others from San Antonio, Orange Grove, Gonzales, and Yoakum. The Louisiana zet extends congratulations and best wishes.
The Shiner Baptist Church will hold regular services next Sunday at 11 AM and 8 PM. Rev. R. C. Steinhoff will preach at both services. The church invites all to unite in worship and Christian fellowship. Reporter.
County totals show strong support for repeal and amendments while opposing the $20,000,000 bond issue. Hope township favors the 18th Amendment 42 to 8. Hallettsville box wets lead 344 to 43, Courthouse 248 wet 17 dry. Final tallies: Repeal 8085 yes 210 no. Home Rule 2265 yes 946 no. Bonds 2132 no 2828 yes. Exemption 2683 yes 483 no. New Era-Herald reports the results with Yoakum East pending.
Mrs. Otto Droll and her daughter Jacquline Ann along with Miss Rosie Huebner of Rowena were guests of Mr and Mrs F F Michna for a week last week.
The Aug 25 Weimar Mercury announces expected arrival of Mr and Mrs Leslie and invites Weimar residents to welcome them. The note compares warmly to former neighbors Mr and Mrs McDonald and predicts the community will grow to love the Leslies as it did the McDonalds.
The United Dr Martin Luther Church lists Sunday School at 9 30 a m Divine Service at 10 30 a m English Service at 8 p m Tuesday night Senior Luther League at 8 p m Wednesday 3 p m Ladies Aid Society Rev Richard Schuetze leads the congregation.
Mrs. W. C. Stoeltje, presently with her son August in Floresville, is planned to visit her daughter Mrs. Louis Seim at Westhoff before returning home.

Mr and Mrs August Becker of New Braunfels were guests in the Mittanck home Sunday.
Last week saw Mrs. A. W. Otto and family move to the Pietsch residence while Mr. and Mrs. Frank Winkler relocated to the Otto home, now owned by Mr. Winkler. The Barrow family vacated their former home, and the cottage left by the Winklers is now occupied by Mr. John Valiai.
C M Karasek longtime Confederate veteran dies at almost 98 after a life that began in the old country on March 10, 1841 and immigrated to America with his parents at age six. Survived by six children, 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral held at daughter’s home with military honors by Kolar Stanek Post American Legion.
At a Thursday night meeting at the Royal Cafe the Shiner Business Men's Club honored Supt. T. H. Leslie and Supt. T. H. McDonald. Leslie spoke of leaving Shiner after fourteen years of service. McDonald expressed his willingness to serve the town and his schools. secretary Mrs. Lane praised retiring President Denmark, charter member and two-year leader. Merseburger reported on the Highway Commission and the group adjourned after closing remarks.

Citizens of Shiner are asked to avoid visiting the city secretary’s office to pay water and light bills until September 3. Meters will not be read until August 31. This is the last month to figure the Federal tax, and statements will not be ready until September 3, requiring inclusion of the tax in all statements including Aug. 31. J. M. Canon, City Sec.
Public weigher L. M. Roeder reports total bales weighed up to Tuesday night August 29 reaching 5611. The same date last year stood at 1294 bales, highlighting a sharp year over year increase in cotton receipts.
