Shiner Compress fills surrounding acreage with bales as daily shipments to Japan arrive. The yard, including to Gulf Refining and Texas storage tanks, is packed with cotton and the main road roped off. September Denmark reports 7000 bales in the current consignment bound for waiting ships at Houston.
Public Weigher L. M. Roeder reports 4293 bales of new cotton received up to Tuesday night August 22nd. Same date last year was 755.
An extra special is offered for next Saturday August 26 at the W Wendtland Tire Shop. With every six gallons of gasoline purchased at 15 cents per gallon you will receive one free gallon of heavy lubricating oil valued at one dollar.
C Merseburger, representing Shiner Moulton and Yoakum, says the Highway Commission in Austin last Tuesday wants two caps completed on Highway 95 from Temple to Yoakum. Gaps lie between Elgin and Bastrop and Smithville and Flatonia. Elgin-Bastrop survey ordered. Smithville-Flatonia notes now prepared.
Thieves broke in through the rear window Wednesday night or last week and stole five suits and three dresses from Garbade’s Modern Cleaners. Two suits belonged to the owner, one dress to Mrs Garbade, and police have not yet apprehended the culprits.
Mutual agreement exchanges between Shiner and Weimar school boards led to Supt. T. H. Leslie and Supt. T. H. McDonald swapping roles last Saturday. Miss Mae Hughs travels with nephew Thomas to Kerrville to stay with grand-niece Raymond Dickson Gary as the Gary family plans a move for the upcoming term and climate change considerations.
After fourteen years of service in Shiner schools and a fifteenth term, Supt. Leslie earns praise for building the district from a six to fourteen teacher faculty, adding twenty credits, and creating a fine arts department. He led the move to a new $60,000 school building and pursued higher degrees through correspondence and on-campus work, earning a B.S. and advancing toward a Master's. His resignation prompts well wishes as he seeks broader opportunities.
The piano recital by Mrs A L Fuller’s class drew a large crowd at the High School auditorium. Patrons praised the students for skill and refinement, reflecting the instructor’s painstaking efforts and the overall success of the program.

Immanuel Lutheran invites for an English service at 10 30 am on Sunday and a confirmation class at 9 30 am led by Pastor A Bohot.

Louis Trautwein went to San Antonio last Thursday after a telephone call from T. F. Noonan who is free on bond awaiting Grand Jury action. Trautwein says a settlement appears possible and informs the Gazette of the prospect.
Peter Molyneaux drives Texas Day at the Fair in Chicago and the Century of Progress exhibit. He fixed a vacant Texas booth, spurring others, including donors and Texans, to support the Texas display. The Tribune Tower dedication will feature the Texas Weekly editor as a speaker. Aida at Soldier's Field draws 1500. Texas Grand Opera Association organizers and donors contributed to the Texas exhibit.

C B Stratman and son B E Stratman visited Orange Grove and Corpus Christi Saturday, reporting the recent Orange Grove fire as a clean up disaster.
