Rumor says the City Bakery owned by Chas Schindler was sold to Joe Barrow of Gonzales. The bakery will move into the Peter Kuhn Drug Store building, with Kuhn relocating to the Schindler brick structure after remodeling. Contracts未 signed yet but near certain. further announcements expected next issue.
A public safety notice urges drivers to have headlights adjusted before September 1 to avoid fines. Local authorities emphasize proper alignment for night visibility and compliance with traffic rules.
The notice announces the 13th Annual Flatonia Fair to be held September 8 through 12. For a complete program and premium list contact M. Fernau Jr., Secretary, Flatonia, Texas. The premium list is the largest ever issued and not reduced by temporary crop conditions. A Day and Night Fair on a much larger scale than before is planned.
The Twentieth Century Club held a delightful meeting with Mrs A J Blohm on August 20 with red and white colors and zinnias. Mrs A L Fuller presented next year’s program on Mythology prepared by the committee as guests and members enjoyed a lunch at red and white tables. First prize went to Mrs K J Henkhaus of Lubbock for a crystal water bottle and a tiny red powder box awarded to Mrs Fink. Table prizes included embroidered red and white towels to several members. Additional guests listed include Mrs Blohm and others from Denton Floresville Lubbock and Floresville.
The statewide drought requires farmers to plant supplementary feed crops for livestock. Small grains like oats rye and barley are recommended with timing from September to late November. Planting methods include broadcasting shallow plow harrowing drilling or one horse planters. Wheat may suit northern regions and rye profits on poor soils. Wheat and rye withstand winter better than oats or barley.
Charlottenburg Lutheran Church will host a 7:30 PM program followed by an ice cream social and picnic hosted by the Ladies Aid. Everyone is invited to support a good cause.
The Daily Press notes Shiner's Quartette of Cadet Officers at A M with Captain and Adjutant Herman A. Liebhafsky, First Lieutenant G. H. Helweg, Second Lieutenant Johnnie E. Kasper, and Top Sergeant Victor G. Stindt. Named for leadership after strong scholastic records, they will assume duties when school opens and will be photographed in uniforms. Lavaca County proud, photos promised.
Services at the Baptist Church are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning and 8:15 p.m. Sunday evening led by Rev. Jos. Green, pastor. Everyone is invited to attend.
Trustees authorize opening of Kopecky School on Monday September seventh. All pupils urged to attend opening day.
Immanuel Lutheran Church announces services next Sunday night conducted by Pastor Rev. H. C. Bierman beginning at o'clock.

Mrs Elo Henkhaus and son E J visited San Antonio and Seguin. They were met at Seguin by Mr Elo Henkhaus and sister Mrs W G Fehrenkamp. All enjoyed a pleasant day at the Jack Henkhaus home.
A message to relatives on Tuesday night August 25 announced the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs J Brooks Gary of Iago at Wharton Hospital Brooks Jr will aid his father in managing the Taylor ranch Irene Turk returns this weekend from Baylor University where she has attended summer school.
One thousand girls from around the world assemble for a fantastic novelty at the Liberty today and Friday. A different kind of film with lots of comedy. Admission is 10 and 25 cents.
Capitan A. Schlafli of La Grange and County Surveyor W. H. Koether met with Shiner’s Commercial Club committee to discuss a road bond issue. Schlafli plans to return with the State Highway Engineer to outline construction cost per mile, tax rate, and general outline. The precinct includes all bridges of the proposed highway, and efforts aim to retain them to avoid reconstruction costs.
