Business Changes Rumored as City Bakery Sells

Rumor says the City Bakery owned by Chas Schindler was sold to Joe Barrow of Gonzales. The bakery will move into the Peter Kuhn Drug Store building, with Kuhn relocating to the Schindler brick structure after remodeling. Contracts未 signed yet but near certain. further announcements expected next issue.

Twentieth Century Club Meets With Mrs Blohm On Aug 20

The Twentieth Century Club held a delightful meeting with Mrs A J Blohm on August 20 with red and white colors and zinnias. Mrs A L Fuller presented next year’s program on Mythology prepared by the committee as guests and members enjoyed a lunch at red and white tables. First prize went to Mrs K J Henkhaus of Lubbock for a crystal water bottle and a tiny red powder box awarded to Mrs Fink. Table prizes included embroidered red and white towels to several members. Additional guests listed include Mrs Blohm and others from Denton Floresville Lubbock and Floresville.

Emergency Feed Crops In Drouth Stricken Areas

The statewide drought requires farmers to plant supplementary feed crops for livestock. Small grains like oats rye and barley are recommended with timing from September to late November. Planting methods include broadcasting shallow plow harrowing drilling or one horse planters. Wheat may suit northern regions and rye profits on poor soils. Wheat and rye withstand winter better than oats or barley.

District Highway Engineer Visits Shiner

Capitan A. Schlafli of La Grange and County Surveyor W. H. Koether met with Shiner’s Commercial Club committee to discuss a road bond issue. Schlafli plans to return with the State Highway Engineer to outline construction cost per mile, tax rate, and general outline. The precinct includes all bridges of the proposed highway, and efforts aim to retain them to avoid reconstruction costs.
