Ex Governor Colquitt Speaks in Shiner

Ex Governor C B Colquitt spoke Tuesday evening in Shiner to a good crowd. He was introduced by Will T Bagby and addressed socialism and Neff’s graduated land tax. The records and Neff’s bible give differing birth years for Neff, 1871 or 1872. Bagby read a telegram urging everyone to vote in the primary.

Netardus Telegram Advises August 28 Primary Vote

A telegram from Rev L P Netardus of Taylor Texas states he will go into the primary on August 28 and will vote for Bailey. He cites Tennessee woman suffrage as precedent and calls for Bailey's nomination to prevent socialist government, urging all to participate.

Newspaper man resigns to become bank cashier

Yoakum Texas August 20 G C Berkley resigned after a year as manager of the Yoakum Herald and will serve as cashier of the First National Bank of Mission Texas. L L Rogers will take over as manager of the Herald.

Camp Fire Girls Present Ceremony at Methodist Church

The Camp Fire Girls held a Sunday night ceremony at the Methodist church. Girls appeared in costume, delivering music and recitations to a large audience. Mrs. Ella E. Lane of the Guardian deserves credit for organizing the event. The Camp Fire Girls are described as a growing local institution.

Yoakum Texas August 20 The Yoakum Summer Normal closed today after an eight weeks session conducted by Prof L B McGuffin of Cuero Texas Many applicants for teachers certificates took the examinations.

Camp Fire Girls Go To Camp With Luggage Laden Start

The Minnehaha Camp Fire Girls loaded cots tents bags and baggage and headed to the Boy Scouts Log Cabin for several days away. Chaperones for the first day were Mesdames Cecile Plagemann and H. H. Hepler. A daily bulletin from the girls is hoped for.

Corn Surplus a Problem in Texas Grain Trade

Texas agencies plan to manage and discard about 45 million bushels of the 1920 Texas corn crop. Surplus will be sold to brokers and buyers in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Bailey at Yoakum Democrats Cheer Bailey Speech

The editor and a large Democratic crowd traveled to Yoakum to hear Hon. Joe Bailey speak. Despite hoarseness he spoke for about two and a half hours praising his views and attacking socialism and unions. Two girls presented flowers as he thanked them and pledged to continue campaigning toward LaGrange next.
