The block just south of Garbade Lumber yard has flourishing weeds on both sides of the street making the walk nearly impassable. The Civic League is urged to address the issue.
Mrs. Frank Mittanck dies at age 84 in Bellville Texas after moving to the state in 1842. The Inquirer extends sympathy to the bereaved family. The death occurred on Friday.

Thousands of visitors expected in Yoakum as gubernatorial candidate Senator Bailey speaks at 11:00 A.M. Delegations from Cuero Victoria Shiner Moulton Hallettsville and other towns will attend, placing pressure on organizers to find space for the crowd.
Austin reports the University of Texas summer normal ends August 20 after a satisfactory term with about 850 students enrolled. The Shiner Farmer's Union held a well attended meeting last Saturday in Shiner.
The Shiner Public School term begins September 13 1920 with compulsory attendance starting around October 4. Faculty includes Mrs Eula Schultz Miss Carlyn Trautwein Mr Chas Chervonite Mr T GH Leslie and others. Improvements since last term add history maps apparatus for the cas department volumes for literature and new teachers desks and plans pursue affiliation with the State University.
Last Thursday Mr and Mrs William Green hosted a music party on their veranda in honor of Prof Anton Navarat violin instructor at Baylor University Waco. A large crowd enjoyed Navratil's program with pupil Navaratil assisting. Guests from Yoakum attended. Fruit punch nuts and fruits were served and many wished for more gatherings. Mrs James Matejek hosted Saturday for Prof and Mrs Nagaratil with about thirty ladies attending. Musical selections impressed guests and cake and ice cream were served.
Miss Ethel Wood arrives in the city to take charge as milliner at Wolters Bros store, effective immediately after arrival last Sunday.

Lavaca County Teachers will attend the Southwest Texas Institute in San Antonio from September 6 to 10. By law teachers under contract must attend. examinations for all certificates will be held August 23 and 24 at Hallettsville.
Miss Vera Elsik and Mr. Gus Fisik left Friday to attend the Huss School ending program at Caldwell and the Moravian Brethren Sunday School Convention at Sncoik.
