Roeder Declared Nominee After Recount in Public Weigher Race

In a July primary recount of two Shiner boxes County nominee L M Roeder won by 12 votes. County Chairman D A Palus presided with several committee members and counsel for Roeder present. 54 ballots were discarded for nonpayment of poll tax and final tally gave Roeder the victory.

Marvin Wagner married Miss Mary Prasek at St Edwards Chapel in Austin. Mary is daughter of V J Prasek Hallettsville. Marvin is son of John Wagner Shiner. The couple hosted a breakfast reception with Shiner guests R J Strauss and Richard Jr. The Gazette extends congratulations for a long, happy marriage. Shiner Public School Opens With New Plan And Faculty

The 1930 1931 term begins September 8 with staggered registration for juniors seniors sophomores and freshmen to allow one on one course planning. A two hour faculty meeting September 5 6 will organize and plan the year. The school announces a new course of study ethics code and rules with copies for patrons.

Reports on bale totals weighed and compressed

Public weigher L M Roeder reports 4683 bales weighed up to Tuesday night August 19. The same date last year stood at 974. Shiner Compress states 8775 bales compressed to date.

Civil Service Examination Saturday

A class of eleven reported for the examination last Saturday conducted by A A Schramm and Elvin Koether in the High School building. Four out of town applicants came from Yoakum Yorktown San Antonio and New Braunfels with the last town providing the only woman applicant. Seven local men took the examination though the government did not release any names.

Mrs O C Henkhaus Sr Dies at Rosebud Funeral Set

Relatives learned Tuesday of the death of Mrs. O. C. Henkhaus Sr at Rosebud. The remains arrived Wednesday at noon and the funeral is announced for Thursday morning at 9 30 from the residence of her son Elo Henkhaus.

Funeral for Charley F. Richter Held in Shiner

Charley F. Richter of Yoakum died aged 66 years 6 months and 22 days. The funeral took place in Shiner Monday afternoon with a large attendance. He leaves a wife six children one sister Mrs R E Welhausen of Kingsville and three brothers L B Richter of Shiner J W of Smithville and C H of Austin. A fuller notice will appear in the next issue.

Man Struck By Car Sustains Severe Injuries En Route Home

Leon Maeker suffered painful injuries after a car blinded by lights forced him off the road and into a culvert curb. Mrs. Maker and her father rushed to his side following the attending physician’s call. The car was wrecked and Maeker is home, hoping for a speedy recovery.

John Rippin visited our office Saturday and showed a Columbus Daily Telegram from Columbus Nebraska featuring Shiner’s new City Hall and a photo insert of the old light and power house. The issue included a lengthy piece on the Municipal Light and Water System and its revenue impact on Shiner.

Important Meeting For Shiner Drum And Bugle Corps

The American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps holds an important meeting at 8 p.m. on Thursday August 21. All Legion members with interest in the corps are urged to attend. First Skeet Shoot At Shiner Gun Club Held Sunday

The inaugural Skeet Shoot at the Shiner Gun Club occurred Sunday afternoon at Kurtz Swimming Pool drawing shooters from nearby towns. Top scorers included W. W. Garbade with 21, E. A. Witte with 20, G. Colley with 20, and H. P. Witte with 13. Others from Yoakum, Moulton, La Grange, Flatonia, Victoria, and small towns posted scores, with the next shoot set for Sunday afternoon August 31.
