XX Century Club Appoints Committee and Plans Work
Miss Annie Koch hosted the XX Century Club on Thursday August 6. President Nave led a business meeting to assign year plan work to a committee of Mrs Fry Mrs Hughes Mrs Gantért and Miss Thornton. They chose to print neat plan of work programs for members. An applicant Mrs C B Welhausen sought membership for Mrs F Ledbetter. The group adjourned to meet August 20 at Mrs Ella Moeckel. Guests included Mesdames Grasshoff Blohm Caypes Bohot and Misses Carnes Grant Burkett Awsler and ereeg.

Firemen Celebrate Seventeenth Anniversary in Halletsville
Halletsville Texas August 6 fire department marks its seventeenth anniversary with a statewide celebration. Teams from Schulenburg Columbus El Campo Cuero Yorktown Shiner competed for prizes while a special Kennedy train brought spectators. Cuero won first prize $50 in hose laying. Shiner and El Campo tied for second $30. Yorktown third $15. A parade dancers and a luncheon preceded boxing games and trap shooting entertainments.

Shiner Boys Attend Halletsville Feast and Hose Contests
The Shiner group included Max Wolters Henry Parma Edwin Wolters Peck Welhausen Victor Wolters Wm Zappe John Kasper and Louie Ehlers who traveled to Halletsville for the feast and hose contests. Mr Joe Marek and wife celebrated their baby's baptism at Geo Mosmeyer's home with kinfolk from Shiner and the Meinke family attending. Mr G H Raymond assistant to Mr G W Eschenburg built a new portable phonograph case and a window shade display case, applying for patents. Eschenburg's store invites inspection of the new inventions.
