Walicek Funeral Rites Held Here Wednesday Afternoon
Funeral services were held for Frank A. Walicek age 57 at United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev. Edwin Oehlke officiating. Interment followed at New Bielau Cemetery near Weimar. He collapsed while commuting to work Monday morning and died en route to hospital with Percy Garbade aiding.

Committee Seeks Rail Service, Meets Attorney General
A citizen group aimed at keeping Trains 51 and 52 running between Waco and Yoakum met Texas Attorney General Price Daniel in Austin on Thursday August 5. Delegations from Shiner Yoakum and Waco discussed supporting the Texas Railroad Commission ruling denying the Texas and New Orleans Railroad’s bid to discontinue service. The committee expects a hard fight but believes victory is possible.

Free Chest X Rays Draw 1081 in Local Drive
The X ray unit provided 1081 free chest pictures before closing time as power failed near the end. In Yoakum technicians made 1743 X rays after a three day visit and in Hallettsville 1090 were taken. Further reports are expected within a week or ten days.

Shiner Receives 1885 Bales of New Cotton
Public Weigher L M Roeder reports 1 885 bales of new cotton received up to Tuesday night Aug 10. Figures compare with 885 bales at the same time in 1947 and show a gain of about one thousand. Congressman Clark Thompson orders a change of address to Galveston where he will reside until the next session. Post Office Department seal and date mark the official statement issued in Washington City on March 10 1886 signed by Postmaster General Wm F Silas.

His remains arrived by Southern Pacific from Fort Worth and were laid to rest at Shiner S P J S T Cemetery with services led by Rev Oehlke and the Lutheran choir. Local veterans groups and color bearers participated.
