The Shiner 11 and 12 year old team captured the Yoakum youth baseball title with a 7-6 win over Hallettsville in six innings. The Shiner Little League All Stars captured first place in the Yoakum Youth Tournament beating Hallsville 7-6 in the final after defeating Karnes City 7-3 and Yoakum No 2 7-3. Bruce Pohler and Elroy Obold each starred on the mound with Za ruba catching. Billie Simper and Dennis Aschenbeck contributed key hits as awards were presented including a $75 donation for expenses and miniature trophies.

VFW Post 6209 and Ladies Auxiliary announce their annual picnic at Legion Park in Shiner on Sunday August 18. Committees say the event will be one of the largest ever, with a family style fried chicken and Shiner Picnic Stew lunch at 11 a.m. and a 4 p.m. auxiliary served meal.
