Quality Pharmacy Pill Rollers claim 63 Pony League title

The Quality Pharmacy Pill Rollers defeated the Bankers 26 to 12 on July 16 to clinch the 1963 Pony League Softball championship. John Williford pitched for Quality, with Dennis Machart Dennis Kutach and James Nevada among the top hitters. Bankers’ standouts included Larry Haas Albert Krenek James Dari lek and David Brogger as umpire Melvin White led behind the plate.

Picnic To Benefit Home For The Aged At Hillje Sunday

The Czech Catholic Home For The Aged at Hillje near El Campo invites the public to an all day picnic Sunday August 4 to raise funds for a new wing. Guests may visit 10 to 11 a.m. enjoy a barbecue dinner and entertainment all day featuring polka bands broadcasting on KULP Radio and a dance with Bill Mraz Nine Piece Orchestra in Houston.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Kiefer in Gonzales

Funeral services for Mrs Mary Dora Kiefer of Dilley were held at Seydler Funeral Home Gonzales with Rev Raymond Drews officiating. Burial followed at Hermann Sons cemetery. She died July 24 in Dilley. born August 20 1875 in Washington County to Henry and Amelia Stamport. Survived by daughter Mrs Adolph Landbeck and four sons Arthur Curtis Kiefer Raymond Sanford Kiefer, plus 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Softball Champs to Face Dads in City Park Duel

The 1963 softball champions will play their Dads in a double header Tuesday night August 6 at 7 30 p m on the Little League diamond in the new City Park. Women players Shiner versus Yoakum start the evening with one hour of play, followed by the dads versus champs game. Public invited for an evening of fun.

Mental Health Unit Meet Forms DeWitt Lavaca Chapter

The DeWitt Lavaca Chapter of the Texas Association of Mental Health met at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Yoakum. About 25 members attended from Cuero Hallettsville Meyersville Yorktown Shiner and Yoakum. Bob Davis of Austin spoke as a service consultant. Three committee chairs were named W K Jones Jr education Rev D I Dalton and Mrs R H Koether to plan next steps, with a September 9 meeting scheduled.

Funeral Services Wednesday For Marvin Pilat 20

Marvin Pilat 20 died July 22 in Wagner Memorial Hospital Shiner after a severe blood disorder. Born July 13 1943 in Moulton he lived with parents Fred and Mrs Pilat and three brothers west of Moulton. Funeral July 24 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel and St Josephs Catholic Church with Rev Emil Winklarek officiating. Interment Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Twenty flower girls represented his twenty years of life. Survivors include his parents and three brothers.

County taxes charged on the 1962 tax roll totaled $342 122.65, excluding state taxes, with a county valuation of 27 895 330. William F Carroll Rites In Tulsa

William Franklin Carroll 12 died in a July 20 station wagon overturn seven miles south of Cameron on Highway 77. His mother Mrs. Carroll and two siblings were injured but survived. The party had visited Yoakum with Gertrude Turk. Local authorities cited gravel loss on a curve as the cause. Carroll's body was taken to Rockdale, with funeral arrangements set in Tulsa.

Funeral Rites For Vaclav Tousek Held In Shiner

Vaclav Tousek aged 84 nine months and 27 days died at home Tuesday July 23. Funeral services were held from Buffington Funeral Home Shiner to the Catholic Church for Requiem High Mass with Rosary recited by KJT and Parish. Interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters four sons eighteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was a retired farmer and member of the KJT Lodge.
