Bozka Seeks Re Election As Lavaca County Clerk

Closing Program Boundary Line at School

The school presents its closing program on Thursday night April 30 at 8 PM. Admission is 10 cents for children over 12 and 20 cents for adults. program tickets grant admission to the dance after the program. Those without tickets pay 20 cents for dance tickets. 17x2.

Garden Club Plans Spring Flower Show This Year

Plans were nearly complete for the Spring Flower Show by the Garden Club at its regular meeting Friday afternoon. All pot plants must be delivered Friday May 8 between 9 AM and 2 PM, and cut flowers Saturday May 9 from 8 to 11 AM. There will be no guest exhibit table at the show.

Ninth Annual Press Convention Opens in San Antonio

The Ninth Annual session met at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio with record attendance. The program included newspaper and commercial printing topics and entertainment. Shiner-Sien Paper Co hosted a barbecue at Brackenridge Park, San Antonio Paper Co hosted a luncheon at the Gunter, and Postmaster Dan Quill led an event in the new post office building. The Fiesta San Jacinto Association and San Antonio Chamber of Commerce sponsored the 7 PM banquet at the Gunter with Governor Allred as speaker. Saturday featured an early morning breakfast at the Gunter by Union Stock Yards, and Texas and Aztec Theatres offered complimentary admissions for badge holders.

The Sunset School Centennial program has been postponed indefinitely due to cases of mumps among the students.

New Gulf Service Station Opens Saturday

The Gulf station at Ave D and 5th St opens with Fred Eilert as operator and Joe Barta assisting. Built in a Spanish style as a Type 6 50-D Jr, it features a double driveway, 2288 feet of concrete, a glass-front office, storage, large wash room, two restrooms, two flood lights, complete lubrication service, Gulf gasoline and oils, and future electric pumps. Owner W F Becker of Yoakum invested about 85000, employing local labor for the project.

Texas Synod Convenes in Shiner With Brotherhood Meet

The Texas Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America will hold its 84th annual convention in Shiner Texas. The Seventh annual Convention of the Texas Synodical Brotherhood also gathers. Services and sessions are scheduled from Sunday through Tuesday with multiple meetings including Sunday School, divine services, and youth group events. Rev. Richard Schuetze extends a hearty welcome to all.

St. Ludmila's Academy displayed term class work Sunday with over 500 visitors. Exhibits ranged from primary to high school projects including commercial and home economics work. Dallas Centennial entries featured water color scenes of Texas history by Mary Dolezal and Theresa Martinka, plus a bead chalice with blue bonnet ornaments and 125 wildflower drawings from Lavaca Gonzales and DeWitt counties.

Freakish Storm Lifts Home and Damages Properties

A bluish electrical storm around 2 am Tuesday caused freak damage across the Dreyer Wied Charlottenburg and surrounding areas. The Hagan home floated ten to eleven feet then settled without injuries. outbuildings at Pietsch and Kubecka farms suffered damage. Wendel barn and outhouses were blown down.
