Albert Kurtz Jr on the Shiner Moulton road lost his barn Saturday at about 5 pm. He was away as Mrs Kurtz and the children were inside. Anita spotted smoke and raised the alarm. Sulphur Park and Moulton fire brigades responded, saving adjacent buildings and feed. Loss included barn feed wagon bed and hay stack.
Czech Moravian Brethren church services will be held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock led by Rev. Jos Barton of Granger Texas.

Christian Science services announce the Sunday lesson sermon on April 30 at 11 am titled Everlasting Punishment. The Golden Text asks if the Judge of all the earth will do right, citing Micah 7 18 19 and a rhetorical question about pardon and compassion.

Mrs. Bee Bednar and Mrs. Edgar Guettner were re elected teachers at Michna School for the upcoming term. A Michna School play sold 111 tickets. Beasley School elected Prof. Geo Kocian and Mrs. Myrtle Alice Evans as teachers.
Funeral services for Gustav Schmidt, born October 13, 1857 in Germany, were held after his death on Tuesday April 18. The service began at 11 a.m. in the home and continued at Dr. Martin Luther Church with Rev. Schuetze in English. Burial was in Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include two sons Arthur and Edmund, four daughters Hedwig Bender Lindenau Martha Seifert and Erna Wagner, 23 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Shiner's Brewers remained unbeaten in Gulf Coast League play by defeating Edna 6 to 3 at Edna. Pitcher Baker held the edge with strong support as Ling and Baker dueled. Strauss slugged a three-base hit and Baker added a double.
Shiner's Garden Club displayed a top flower show with 611 visitors from multiple towns while planning a Dedication Dance Saturday night in the New Gymnasium Auditorium. Joe Stanton orchestra directed by Jimmy Weiller will perform, tickets 125 per couple, bleacher seating 25 cents, dance 830 to 1. Parking guidance provided.
The Game and Fish Protective League of Shiner announces its eighth annual outing at the recreation grounds next Tuesday evening May 2 at 6 30. All members should attend to discuss community game and fish matters with refreshments and meats served.
A rural electrification meeting will be held at Bunjes School on Thursday April 27 starting at 8 o'clock. All interested parties are urged to attend.
Mrs Aug Schramm expresses sincere thanks to all who conveyed love and friendship on her birthday. She thanks ministers for words, Ladies Aid for vase and flowers, and all who made the event memorable, promising it will remain a pleasant memory.
Joseph Hranitzky Sr. a Mt. Olive pioneer died at his home on Saturday afternoon at 3 o clock. Funeral services were held Monday at the residence and burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery. Rev. Kuratko and Rev. A Guyon led last rites and prayers with the O D H S Lodge assisting. A choir sang hymns as relatives and friends escorted the coffin to the grave.
The funeral for Mr Hranitzky featured lavish floral offerings and pallbearers M E Wolters Louis Trautwein C B Welhausen Emil Schroeder Hy Plume and Anton Pesek. Born at Cat Spring he died at 82 years 1 month 27 days after moving to the Shin er community in 1891. He married Annie Kveton 62 years ago and left eight children including J E Hranitzky Mt Olive Emanuel Sweet Home Florence at home Martha Ashley Galveston Annie Ham Olive, plus six grandchildren. He was a splendid citizen who served his community. his loss is deeply felt by family and neighbors.
Mr and Mrs Otto Schreiber express sincere thanks for the surprise gifts and beautiful presents at their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Gratitude goes to everyone who attended from far and near. the memories will last.

C C Amsler and L E Denmark attended the Field Day meeting of South Texas at the A and M Experimental Station in Beeville on Friday April 21. At San Marcos on Saturday April 22 Erwin Liebhavsky and Frank Havel of Shiner were defeated in the first round by Thomas Jefferson High School of San Antonio. Debating teams at the regional meet included Pearsall Austin San Antonio and Shiner.
The Midway Home Demonstration club will stage a 42 and straight domino party on May 2 1939 at 8 p m in Blohm's Building. A candle wick bedspread will be awarded along with other prizes. Admission with lunch is 15 cents or 25 cents a couple. Bring friends.
The community mourns William Reichardt Jr. 52, a trusted local figure of Shiner Texas, who died at 2 am Sunday after heart pain. A World War I veteran, he served in the AEF and fought in St Mihiel and Verdun, later working at Corner Drug Store Purity Creamery Southwest Gas and Herder Truck Line. Funeral Monday at 2 pm at his home then Shiner City Cemetery with American Legion honors.
Night Soft Ball will start soon with six or more teams. The field is in first class shape with forty and fifty foot lighting poles, fourteen 1500 watt lamps, a regulation sixty foot diamond and twelve inch ball. A full summer season is planned with games against outside teams as two strong hard ball teams and many softball teams participate to mark baseball’s centennial.
The Shi ner high school senior class staged Kicked Out of College by Walter Ben Hare in the gym auditorium Friday April 21 to a full house. Cast included Arthur Bender Leonard Darilek Erwin Liebhav sky Clarence Kopecky Bennie Patek Bill Novak Gilbert Kasper Leslie Nollkamper Frank Havel C. J. Tomasco Maureen Riske Leona Valek Geneva Menning Virginia Vogelsang Beth Howard Dorothy Sonntag Evelyn Banarden Ruby Fisseler Agnes Jurek Elon Findeisen Joe Havel Ruby Stoeltje. Receipts were 120.15 to fund a new radio and public address system.
Mrs Pe ck Welhausen submitted to an operation at the local hospital Wednesday morning. Scores of friends join in wishes and prayers for her speedy return to health.

A large funeral in Cat Spring honored the passing of a local man. Survived by his father Wm Reichardt Sr., four brothers Hugo Fritz Otto Bede, three sisters Mrs P E Serger Mrs C F Blumberg Mrs J A Nelson, and a mother who died earlier in 1917 1933. The Gazette extends heartfelt sympathy.
