XX Century Club Meets With Allegorical Art Program

The XX Century Club met on Thursday afternoon April sixteenth at Mrs. C. B. Welhausen's home. Seventeen members and one guest Mrs. Edwin Holchak from Kenedy attended. Officers and committees reports were accepted and a program on Allegorical painting followed, featuring Botticelli's Allegory of Spring displayed by Elsie Dziewas, Durer's Knight Death and Devil by Cora Berkenhoff, and Watts' Hope shown by Ad Schulze. The next meeting will be May seventh with Mrs. Elo Wolters to review the year's work.

Memorable 42 Party Honors Mrs Edwin Holchak

Mrs. Peck Welhausen hosted a cordial 42 party in Kenedy honoring her sisterinlaw Mrs Edwin Holchak. The evening featured games, refreshments including chicken salad coconuts and cream puffs, and fruit punch with strawberry ice cream. Prizes went to Mrs Ponton for high score and Mrs Arno Wagener for consolation amid a guest list of local residents and workers wives.

Mrs O W Dreyer entertaining the 500 Club last Wednesday afternoon in a pre Easter event postponed from Holy Week. Winner Mrs L Fink received a Pyrex plate for high score. Mrs J C Blohm consoled with a basket of Easter eggs. Bandits tunneled into a Sweet Home bank vault from a side door after Monday night burglary at Valenta Bros. store. Explosives shattered the vault and safe doors, about 600 to 700 dollars in notes and valuables stolen, insured. Robbers fled. no clues found. previous year saw silk stock theft at the store.
