Softball Registration Open For Local Men Over Twenty One

Men over 21 may register to play softball this summer with a $2 fee plus $1 for dues and $1 to retire a note from last year. Some older members may serve in non playing roles. Deadline is May 14, and a final pre season meeting is May 18 at 7:30 pm in the Chamber of Commerce Room City Hall.

Willie J Menke Dies at 76 in Shiner Funeral Rites Held

Willie J Menke died April 15 1966 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital in Shiner from a heart attack at age 76. He was buried in Shiner City Cemetery after services at United Dr Martin Luther Church with military honors from American Legion Kolar Stanek Post 201 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Shiner Memorial Post 6209. He served in World War I with the 36th Infantry Division Battery B 132nd Field Artillery and was a member of United Dr Martin Luther Church Lutheran Men and American Legion Post 201. The son of Henry and Helene Menke, he lived near Shiner most of his life and was married to Adele Remmers.

Cardinal Beran Visits Sacred Heart Parish and Shiner

J Josef Cardinal Beran along with Bishop John Morkovsky visited Sacred Heart Parish Hallettsville and Sts Cyril and Methodius Shiner in a historic Czech Catholic event. The cardinal spoke on God and sacred heart love, blessed the congregation, and was received by Msgr Alois Markovsky with Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus as escorts. Survivors include his wife, son Rev Wilfred Menke, a daughter in law, three grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters.

Shiner ISD Trustees Elect Officers After April 2 Election

The Shiner Independent School District Board met April 13 with all members present along with Superintendent David Little and three visitors. They canvassed April 2 trustee ballots, elected J. Jack Cloutier as president, Kenneth R. Otto as vice president, and Henry J. Fietsam as secretary. The session approved the 1966-67 calendar, discussed a summer program, and authorized March invoices. A building program resume will be released soon.

Last Rites For Eddie Neuvar

Funeral services for Eddie Neuvar were held at the Ka bena Funeral Home in Halletts ville and Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas O Callahan presiding. He died April 5 1966 in Ren ger Memorial Hospital at age 61 years 8 months and 17 days. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. He was born July 18 1904 in Lavaca County and married Bettie Steffek on November 23 1925. Hugo W William Helweg 75 of Shiner died April 14 1966 at home from heart attack. He served 30 years with Shiner Light and Water Plant retired 1957 and was active in Boy Scouts since 1947 earning Silver Beaver in 1966. Shiner FFA Competes at Area III Judging Meet

Shiner FFA sent two teams to the Area III judging contest at Texas A and M on April 16. The livestock squad placed 16th among 54 teams, members Wayne Koenning Ronald Jurica and Kenneth Filip. The meats team finished 7th among 23 teams, members Robert Fikac Morris Boedeker and Gary Bender. Advisor Ray Seale accompanied the group on their educational trip.
