Shiner Independent School District invites parents to a Pre-school Round-up on Friday April 22 at 9 am in the Shiner Public School Cafeteria to register children for first grade for the 1966-67 term. A birth certificate copy is required for each new student and will be copied after registration.
Alfred Gieptner aged 82 two months and 22 days died Saturday April 16 1966 in Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital. Funeral from Buffington Funeral Home Shiner to Shiner Catholic Church for Requiem Mass. Rosary Sunday evening. Interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
Miss Cecilia Havel daughter of Mr and Mrs John S Havel of Shiner is reported recovering satisfactorily after heart surgery Thursday April 7 at Hermann Hospital Houston She was removed from intensive care over the weekend

Edwin H. Jaks died April 10 1966 at 8:00 a.m. after exiting his car near church. Services at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church followed by burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He was 53 and survived by his wife Gertrude Jaks and siblings.

Men over 21 may register to play softball this summer with a $2 fee plus $1 for dues and $1 to retire a note from last year. Some older members may serve in non playing roles. Deadline is May 14, and a final pre season meeting is May 18 at 7:30 pm in the Chamber of Commerce Room City Hall.
Willie J Menke died April 15 1966 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital in Shiner from a heart attack at age 76. He was buried in Shiner City Cemetery after services at United Dr Martin Luther Church with military honors from American Legion Kolar Stanek Post 201 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Shiner Memorial Post 6209. He served in World War I with the 36th Infantry Division Battery B 132nd Field Artillery and was a member of United Dr Martin Luther Church Lutheran Men and American Legion Post 201. The son of Henry and Helene Menke, he lived near Shiner most of his life and was married to Adele Remmers.
J Josef Cardinal Beran along with Bishop John Morkovsky visited Sacred Heart Parish Hallettsville and Sts Cyril and Methodius Shiner in a historic Czech Catholic event. The cardinal spoke on God and sacred heart love, blessed the congregation, and was received by Msgr Alois Markovsky with Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus as escorts. Survivors include his wife, son Rev Wilfred Menke, a daughter in law, three grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters.
The Shiner Independent School District Board met April 13 with all members present along with Superintendent David Little and three visitors. They canvassed April 2 trustee ballots, elected J. Jack Cloutier as president, Kenneth R. Otto as vice president, and Henry J. Fietsam as secretary. The session approved the 1966-67 calendar, discussed a summer program, and authorized March invoices. A building program resume will be released soon.
Funeral services for Eddie Neuvar were held at the Ka bena Funeral Home in Halletts ville and Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas O Callahan presiding. He died April 5 1966 in Ren ger Memorial Hospital at age 61 years 8 months and 17 days. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. He was born July 18 1904 in Lavaca County and married Bettie Steffek on November 23 1925. He leaves two sons R J Neuvar of White Bear Lake Minnesota Marcus E Neuvar of Victoria one brother Jim Neuvar of Victoria three sisters and five grandchildren.
In Manteca California a man who died is remembered for being a loving husband father and brother. He was survived by family and noted as a kind helpful neighbor. His father died December 4 1904 and his mother born in Oldenburg Germany died October 15 1950.
John A Marek longtime Campbellton resident and farmer died April 7 1966 after a five year illness. Funeral was April 11 at St Matthew's Jourdanton with Rev Henry Rolf officiating. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by wife two daughters a son eleven grandchildren and siblings.
The Lavace Colorado Wharton Counties Games Association will hold its annual barbecue Sunday April 24 at the O. J. Woytek camp three and a half miles west of Sheridan on Highway 90A. Founded 16 years ago to promote wildlife conservation, membership is $1 and includes a free dinner. A running deer shoot will be held and a band will entertain.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Kutac of Longview were held in Shiner with Requiem Mass at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Burial followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include a son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She died April 13 1966 at age 85 after surgery.

Hugo W William Helweg 75 of Shiner died April 14 1966 at home from heart attack. He served 30 years with Shiner Light and Water Plant retired 1957 and was active in Boy Scouts since 1947 earning Silver Beaver in 1966. He married Amalie Janssen in 1924 and leaves a wife two grandchildren three. Funeral with military rites held April 15 at United Dr Martin Luther Church.
Shiner FFA sent two teams to the Area III judging contest at Texas A and M on April 16. The livestock squad placed 16th among 54 teams, members Wayne Koenning Ronald Jurica and Kenneth Filip. The meats team finished 7th among 23 teams, members Robert Fikac Morris Boedeker and Gary Bender. Advisor Ray Seale accompanied the group on their educational trip.
The Shiner Game and Fish League directors held their regular monthly meeting. Dates were set for the annual meeting to be held Thursday May 5 with a fine program door prizes and usual festivities. Mark your calendar and hold the evening of May 5 open.
