The Shiner Men’s Softball Organization met April 1 in City Hall. Elton Zander and Joe Roller were re elected president and secretary treasurer. directors include Marvin Adamek, Joe Patek, and Harvey Seifert. The groups plan a concession stand restrooms field and a new well at Green Dickson Park with a $2 entry fee and $1 dues. Registration ends April 26 for men 21 and over.
Funeral rites were held in Yoakum for Henry C. Lockstedt aged 82 with Rev. D I Dalton officiating at Buffington Chapel. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Survivors include three sons Carl Calvin and Lloyd, two daughters Lillian Shaw s Ada Lockstedt, 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Notices warn residents of vandalism in Green Dickson Municipal Park and urge everyone to report any acts. Reports should be made to Chief of Police Bill Kirk Erwin Kasper or Ben Marcak for prompt action.
Plan calls for Easter Sunday worship April 18 at 6 00 a m in the high school football stadium. Baptist Lutheran and Methodist youths sponsor the event inviting all to attend.
The Shiner Clippers start the 1965 season Friday April 9 at 8 00 p m facing Moulton Rockets at Green Dickson Municipal Park An opening ceremony is set for 7 30 p m with the Shiner High School Band in attendance Two more home games follow Gonzales April 21 and Yoakum April 28 both at 8 00 p m
Players must cover their own injuries as no insurance will be provided. Fill and clip the application form and submit to Joe Adamek or Marvin Adamek. Deadline for filing is April 26.
Holy Week services at the Methodist Church run April 12 to 16 with daily 7:30 PM gatherings and Friday 2:00 PM Holy Communion. Reverend Edmund Deane leads each night with a different guest minister. Mrs. E A Ross and Mrs. William Wendtland handle music.
The Texas A&M Muster for Lavaca and DeWitt counties will be held April 21 at Mockingbird Hill Yoakum beginning at 8 pm Sponsored by the Yoakum A and M Club with James E Kolar as master of ceremonies The program includes John Kasper John V Lindsey Ken Kennedy Marvin Matusek and Bo Witte Alumni and friends nationwide participate in the annual tribute to deceased Aggies and to Texans who won independence at San Jacinto.
Mrs. D. A. Mueller nee Helen Indorf died April 6 1965 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital aged 76 years 3 months 25 days. The body rests at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner until 1:00 p.m. Thursday then to United Dr Martin Luther Church for 2:00 p.m. services. Interment in Shiner City Cemetery.
Shiner citizens went to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in the election for city officials. Mayor Arthur H. Kaspar and Aldermen James F. Buske each received 65 votes, Ben Marcak 63. A total of 65 votes were tallied, up from 44 in 1964. Judge Alfred Stoeltje and clerks Oscar Lichey and Willie Granz officiated.
Cub Pack 232 leaders meet Monday April 12 at 7 30 p.m. SHINER FARM Bureau meets Tuesday April 13 at 8 00 p.m. at Legion Park. Members bring sandwiches or cake for social. Ray Seale in charge. Catholic Altar Society meets Thursday April 8 at 2 30 p.m. Parish Gym. May hostesses listed.
Southwestern Bell announced new long distance rates for Texas station-to-station calls. Night rates start at 8 p.m. daily and all day Sunday, with an evening rate 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, now applying on Saturdays. Sunday calls now qualify for the week's lowest rate. Intrastate collect and third-party calls are excluded.
A new gas discovery Edwin Allday No. 1 C. Y. Jacobs was announced near Hallettsville, Lavaca County. The well yielded 4.9 million cubic feet of gas with trace distillate from Yegua sand at 5,068 to 5,070 feet on a 24 hour test. A nearby dry hole Wayne D Ankenman No. 1 Leo Gerdes Heirs west of the Lavaca River was listed.
Rudolph Rebecek Sr. died at age 76 years 11 months 18 days at his home on Monday April 5 1965. Funeral arrangements were set for April 7 at 8 45 a m at Shiner Catholic Church with Requiem Mass at 9 00 a m and rosary observed at 7 30 p m on April 6 at the Buffington Funeral Home. Interment followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
The Shiner Independent School trustee election on April 3 1965 produced 85 total votes. Brian H Helweg and Oscar W Buesing won the two vacancies left by Elmer Schneider and Felix Jurica with J J Cloutier the incumbent receiving 84 votes and one complimentary vote cast for Elwood C Kasper. Clerks were Alfred Stoeltje Ad Brunkenhoefer and Theo Rogge served as judge.

Shiner Cemetery Association announces Decoration Day on Sunday April 11 with no services on the cemetery grounds. Memorial services will be held in the churches.
Baldwin Business College in Yoakum Texas will relocate to 1010 Nelson Street at the start of the Summer Term. The remodeled building will house IBM key punch and selectric machines, a bouncing ball keyboard, electric calculators, and multiple clerical devices. The first and second floors will be air conditioned with dedicated rooms for accounting, typing, shorthand, and English, offering day classes 9 to 3 25 and night sessions Monday and Thursday 6 to 9. A seven week Typing for Teenagers course begins June 7 with free placement assistance upon course completion.
Funeral services for Anton Rudolph Jaks were held April 6 1965 at St James Catholic Church with Rev Peter J Roe brocks officiating Burial followed at St James Cemetery A rosary was recited Monday at Seydler Funeral Home Jaks died April 2 at his home He was born May 17 1891 in Gonzales County to Anton and Eva Jaks He was survived by one daughter Ida Blahuta one son Carl Edward Jaks eleven grandchildren two brothers Adolph and Jim Jaks and a half sister Emily Jaks
Shiner Memorial VFW Post 6209 and Ladies Auxiliary announce regular meetings at the Post Home Thursday April 8 at 7 45 p m Election of officers will be held Attendance is encouraged A social hour with refreshments follows the meetings.

Edwin Mat Lubyinesky died March 31 at Westhoff after a wartime Air Force service. Funeral services were at Seydler Funeral Home Gonzales with burial in Gonzales City. Survivors include brother Willie of Westhoff and sisters Lillie Grossman of Shiner and Elsie Wendel of San Antonio. His parents predeceased him.
A social to aid the Shiner Cemetery Association will be held Sunday April 11 starting at 3 00 p m at the Shiner Hermann Sons Hall. Bring a donation such as sugar shortening coffee etc cake sandwiches and coffee will be served. Welhausen's Store will accept items and those asked to bring a cake will be notified.
The spring term of District Court opened Monday April 5 1965 with Judge W W Ellison presiding and swearing in the grand jury Edward Hermes foreman. District Attorney E W Patteson and County Attorney James Evans led state investigations with bailiffs W E Kortwig Albert McElroy Hilmer Woytek and Ervin Kasper.
The burnt wreckage of a rented four place plane missing a week was found 23 miles east of Laredo by Border Patrol. Victims include pilot Jim Auld 26 of Edinburg and Felix Garza 19, Homero Garza 17, Thomas Pena 20, all from Starr County area. Auld was a Pan American College student, plane rented March 25 with intended flight to Starr County. Interment of Auld held in Combes Texas with services in Mission.
Lavaca County reaches halfway in screwworm fund collection for livestock producers. Reminders to deposit or mail contributions to local banks to prevent spring re infestation. Minimum 10 cents per head or per acre, urgency stressed for program continuation.
Mrs Ben Stluka underwent major surgery Monday morning April 5 at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital San Antonio. She is reported to be doing very well. Cheer cards may be sent to Mrs Ben Stluka Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital Room 2368 San Antonio Texas 78229.
