Ladewig Receives 25 Year Weather Observer Pin

Walter L. Ladewig, Dreyer Weather Station observer at Shiner Route 2, was honored for twenty five years of service submitting daily weather records since February 1 1940. He displayed his 10 15 and 25 year pins and noted volunteers contribute data to the U S Weather Bureau.

Floresville Rites Held Tuesday For Mrs V Jiral Jr

Funeral services for Mrs. Vincent Jiral Jr. of Floresville were held at the Vinyard Funeral Home and Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John Wagner officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Survivors include three sons six daughters and 13 grandchildren.

May Fest Parade Scheduled by Shiner Lodge

Letters across Texas announce the May Fest sponsored by the Shiner Lodge of the Order of the Sons of Hermann. The event at Shiner American Legion Park on Sunday May 16 begins with lunch at 11 00 am a downtown parade at 2 00 pm and a queen’s ball after the coronation at 7 00 pm. Goliad High School Speech and Drama directed by Carl Jaks won first place in the District 29 A A University Interscholastic League One Act Play Contest held in Goliad on March 26. Citizens Urged To Vote In City Elections Shiner ISD Trustees

The Shiner Independent School District trustees election is set for Saturday April 3 1965 at City Hall Shiner with 8 am to 6 pm polling. City voters head to the polls Tuesday April 6 for mayor and two aldermen at City Hall 8 am to 6 pm, presiding judge Alfred Stoeltje. Citizens are urged to vote and support the candidates.

Self-Service Post Office Expands With 24Hour Units

Postmaster Arthur T. Ward announced a new self-service post office program after word from Postmaster General John A. Gronouski. An experimental 24 hour unit outside Los Angeles serves after hour needs with expanded vending capacity and roof protection. A Washington area unit recently opened, with both aiming to supplement central facilities rather than replace staff. The system allows buying stamps and mailing supplies, weighing parcels, and dropping mail day and night.

Fifth Science Fair Shiner Parish Gym Draws Crowds

Nearly one thousand visitors attended the St Pauls High School Science Fair in Shiner on March 7. Sixteen exhibits across Biology Physics Chemistry and General Science showcased solar powered trains microscopes and electric devices. Grand prize went to Dorothy Wesselsky who earned a $50 bond. other winners included Glenn Fisseler Linda Cimrhanzel and more with ribbons awarded across divisions.
