Funeral for Prof Guenther to be held in Schulenburg Cemetery

News from Halletts ville reports the death of Prof F P Guenther of Canyon Texas at Amarillo hospital after an operation. He served Lavaca counties first superintendent of schools from 1900 to 1910 and later taught foreign languages at Canyon Normal. Surviving are his wife two daughters two brothers and many relatives. The New Era extends sympathy.

Texas Cleanup Week 1925 Proclamation

Statewide cleanup week set for April 5 to 11, 1925. City Health Officer G Scholze urges citizens of Shiner to cooperate, inspect premises, and achieve a 100 percent sanitary report to the State Board of Health. Emphasizes provision of sanitary bathtubs as essential to health and happiness.

Ellis County leads with 122,297 bales in cotton, followed by Williamson 106,672 and McLennan 104,815. The State totals show 4,851,878 bales in 19924 and 4,212,248 in 1993 with county figures for Lavaca Austin Colorado Fayette Wharton Victoria Dewitt Gonzales Jackson and others.

Miss Boyce Hosts Dreyer News Birthday Party

On Friday evening March twentieth Miss Jay Boyce entertained her pupils, Board of Trustees and friends at the Moore home. She celebrated by hosting games, banana ice cream and cake, and wished for many more happy birthdays for herself and her guests.

Ladies Aid Dist Church social at Easter event

On Wednesday the Ladies Aid at Dist Church hosted a social afternoon at S. A. Thulemey. C. Blohm was elected secretary. Guests enjoyed a prettily decorated dining room with Easter hues, green centerpieces, and nested rabbit decorations. Twenty five attendants attended including Mesdames Earl Fry of Austin and Bat Fry, and E J Edmondson of San Antonio. The next meeting, a public social, is set for April 24.

Shiner Scores in Literary Events at County Meet

Shiner claimed top places in multiple literary events at the county league meet. Winners included Shelly Canon Bernard Strattman in boys and Mabel French Agatha HoJanek in girls debates, Roxie Veree Buske and Willie Hazel Monroe in declamations, Irene Turk top in Extemporaneous Speaking, James Bauske and Roy Mewes in declamation placements, Emil Bierman and Ella Strattman in Arithmetic, Susie Perry dna Janssen in junior spelling, Susie Perry fourth in junior spelling, with Evelyn Dreyer Milada Berckenhoff Irma Morgenroth in the Music Memory Contest.

Range visitors recount county changes since boyhood

Messers R A Boyce and Robert Blum of Range visited Miss Jay Boyce last weekend. Boyce, surprised by the county’s changes, once rode the trail into Kansas and Nebraska in the early eighties. Mrs Ed Goehring and the Goehring children from Runge visited Miss Nora Goehring over the past weekend.

Giddings Sells $91,000 Water Bonds at Premium

The city of Giddings sold a $91,000 municipal water and sewer bond issue on Friday. J. F. Bowman of Austin bought the bonds at a premium of $6,825, pricing them at 107.49, reported as the highest price in Texas bond market in recent years.
