City Marshal Henry Eilers Dies After Weeks Ill

Henry Eilers longtime Schulenburg city marshal for 35 years died at home Saturday after weeks of illness. He was born July 11, 1857 in Fayette county, moved to Schulenburg in 1881, served as constable in 1882 and city marshal from 1886 until death. He is survived by a son, four daughters, four brothers and two sisters. his brother William Eilers headed the Sam and Wil Moore Institute in 1909-10. Funeral held Sunday at Schulenburg Cemetery with Rev. Paul Pienenbroes officiating.

Fatal Hunting Accident in Witting Claims Mr. Albrecht

A fatal hunting accident occurred Sunday in Witting when Fritz Albrecht crawled through a wire fence with a shotgun. The weapon discharged and he was killed instantly. The funeral was held Monday in Witting.

Civic League meeting discusses city beautification efforts

The Civic League held a regu lar session March 25 at Mrs C B Welhausens home. They planned cooperation with the Fair Association, a community children parade, and a spring membership drive to beautify Shiner. Funds from a Washington Birthday tea netted 31.90 with expenses of 38.20 for band stand paint and 24.50 for park cleaning. A rest room for the public was announced and Welhausen was thanked for four gallons of paint for the band stand. Welhausen Park is highlighted as an essential asset.

Celebration And Feast At Shiner Parish

The Catholic Parish of Shiner holds a 3ig celebration on April 13. The blessing of the new church corner stone starts at 10 AM. A feast at Bluecher Park follows at 1 PM with Father Ledwing, army chaplain, speaking in English. A dance closes the day. All are invited.

The Home Service Section of the Red Cross announces a special instructor arriving to lead a Home Hygien and care of the sick course. Post of the American Legion Organized

A Friday night meeting approved forming a post of the American Legion for ex service men and marines. Names for the charter were read and a permanent organization will be formed if enough members join. The Legion aims to unite veterans and keep them in touch with veteran interests and activities. All ex-service men are urged to join and attend meetings.

A cornerstone ceremony is set for Tuesday April 13 in Shiner for the new $80,000 Catholic Church. Bishop Arthur Crossaerts of San Antonio will preside with Rev Father Wolf and many priests assisting.

Miss Viasta Marik Returns Home From Galveston

After months in St Mary's Infirmary following an operation Miss Viasta Marik came back from Galveston last week. Friends are glad to see her home again. An important meeting of the Union Cemetery Association is scheduled Friday at 3 30 p m at City Hall.
