Burton road petition rejected by joint county boards
Hamilton and Tipton counties held a joint session to consider improving the Burton road but by a unanimous vote of both boards the petition was rejected. Attorney for petitioners J A Mitchell said an appeal would be made to the circuit court. The session also addressed poor farm improvements and other gravel road petitions as well as a divorce case ruling in Ella Oyler vs Charles Oyler.

With 61 subscribers paying five dollars each, the group surpasses the required amount and moves to file the pledge with the Circuit Court judge. Appoints Member in June to Succeed Retiring School Board Member

Mrs. Thomas Baker Dies At 69 From Heart Disease
Mrs Thomas Baker died at her home west of Bakers Corner from valvular heart disease after months of ill health. She was 69, survived by her husband and two children Arthur and Miss Gertrude. Funeral plans awaited relatives in the west expected to arrive and preside, with Dr Hall of Chicago sought for ceremony.

East Side The Winner At Coxiptors Park Clerks Contest
The annual game between east and west side clerks was held Monday at Coxiptors park. The east side won 12 to 11 in a fast hit and run contest that left many needing arnica the next day. Teams lined up as listed.

A fitting tribute paid Sunday and Monday through memorial and Decoration services. Dr. Gobin of Depauw University delivered the sermon on God’s Providence in the War. Decoration at the opera house highlighted the Vicksburg battle. Graves at Spencer Cemetery honored 51 Union soldiers 1 Confederate 3 Spanish-American and Home Guard members. A chilly but ideal day saw businesses close and residents attend memorial events, auto races and baseball.
