Rebecca wife of Chas Roberts of Hortonville died Tuesday night from Brights disease at age 66. Funeral services were held at Hortonville Friday morning with burial in Westfield cemetery.
The Hamilton County political scene begins to stir as January township conventions allow would be candidates to announce. County officers are up for election next fall with several offices still lacking declared contenders. Nominations for Sheriff, Commissioners, Judge, Treasurer, Auditor, Representative, Prosecutor, Surveyor and Coroner are planned for February, while Trustee and Assessor seats will be contested again in November. Several positions remain unclaimed as candidates hesitate to declare.
E T Williams who went to Philadelphia two weeks ago in response to a telegram from the president of Barber Asphalt company returned Friday after signing a year long contract. His work will take him to Trinidad Island in South America and he will leave January 1. He will be accompanied by his brother Frank and Wm McKinzie.
The Indiana high school athletic board met in Wa bash and decided no team will be awarded the championship this year due to numerous claimants. A rule to abolish ringers aims to promote cleaner contests, and a student may play four years even if out of school a year, a question previously debated at Kokomo.
As last year letters to Santa Claus will not reach him. A fraud order directs misaddressed epistles to the dead letter office for inspection and return where possible. The order and publicity may reduce the volume of mail to Santa.
National Banks of Sheridan publish statements in response to the Comptroller of the Currency call. The banks report total deposits of $422,058.23 with actual cash in vaults $122,516.06, about 30 percent, roughly double the required 15 percent reserve.
Boxley residents face a dilemma as they seek to vote in the upcoming Road Supervisors election tomorrow. The town is incorporated in name only, having ceased self government years ago, leaving residents unsure if they may cast ballots under the current incorporation status.
The News announces Republican candidates subject to voter decision. G C McMatts of Adams Township seeks sheriff with Ralph E Pearson as representative and Hugh Johnson of Washington Township for surveyor. A E Jessup of Clay Township runs for treasurer.
An election to choose road supervisors is set for tomorrow but no candidates have filed names. Rumor suggests I W Beard may run in the fourth district. Polling places and inspectors listed: No 1 W S McMurtry at No 3 school, No 2 E C Barrett at Boxleytown, No 3 T S Spencer at No 4 school, No 4 Arthur Baker at Bakers Corner.
Noted Indiana evangelist Rev. C Fenwick Reed is holding revival services at the Methodist Church. He uses wit and gospel truth to stir minds of evil doers and draws large nightly crowds. Indiana Polis News and Sheridan News offered at $3 per year.
Beginning next Tuesday December 17 a new express matter price schedule goes into effect. The old rate of 40 cents per hundred rises to 50 cents an increase of 25 percent. Northern origin letters remain unchanged while shipments between Indianapolis and Sheridan incur the higher rate. Free delivery service, begun last spring in Sheridan, continues.
