County Court votes against six bridge petitions in Shenandoah and Potomac plans
An adjourned county court meeting with commissioners Roberts Snyder Rider Hefse bower and Burna rejected six petitions seeking free bridges across the Shenandoah at four sites and the Potomac at Shepherdstown and Harper's Ferry. The court found the cost would raise county taxes from 40 to 60 percent and preferred a plan to issue bonds only for a Shenandoah bridge.
