Retribution for a Rascal in Amiens Courtsmartial for German officer
A French court martial sentenced Robert Roeckling administrator of mines at Karlsruhe to ten years confinement fifteen years exile and a 10 million franc fine for organizing factory pillage in eastern France. Herman Roeckling received a similar sentence by default. The brothers, called German steel kings, allegedly destroyed Briey Micheville Longwy and other plants transporting millions of tons to Karlsruhe while some immunity shielded Ludwig and Herman due to Versailles and Armistice roles. Robert claimed orders from the government but evidence pointed to personal initiative.
