A morning blaze at 96/2639 Pine Street Philadelphia trapped a family and servants. Mr John A King and his wife perished along with Jennie Hamilton Catherine Berry and Charles King. A nurse Leonore Grobis and Mary Burns were injured and several children survived with injuries. The fire started in the cellar from hot coals among rubbish and spread rapidly.

Train Collision Kills Four on Virginia Midland Route
A northbound passenger train from Danville collided with a freight train just north of a viaduct on the Chesapeake and Ohio line near Washington Alexandria. Four trainmen died and about seventy passengers were shaken. The wreck trapped on a single viaduct segment caused a fire that destroyed freight cars and mail pouches valued at up to $200,000, with extensive registered mail losses.

High Prices for Percherons at Wayne Stock Sale
The Wayne Kentucky stock sale drew buyers from Indiana New York California Colorado Missouri and Illinois. Two famed Percheron stallions Caesar and Voltaire sold for 5000 each with Caesar bought by Colline of Missouri and Voltaire by A W Seriboer of Denver. Moosee brought 2000 as eight stallions and seven brood mares and 19 400 total for the above lot. Overall sales reached 41400 with Voltaire and Caesar fetching record prices and among six horses awarded medals at the French show last year.
