Good Roads Plan For Jefferson County Work
James K. Hendricks, recently named county roads engineer for Jefferson county, establishes an office in Charles Town and leads survey work for Class A road improvements. Initial projects include Harper's Ferry to Charles Town and Berryville, and Shepherstown to Berryville via Duffields, with costs estimated from 5,000 to 10,000 dollars per mile. State Highway official S Scanlon urged public backing, citing real estate value and population growth as benefits, and noted local limestone reserves aiding economy. A survey authorization runs from the Maryland bridge at Harper’s Ferry to the Clarke county line, while neighboring districts await their turn.
