New Highway And Motor Vehicle Laws for Michigan
Michigan residents face September 6 1963 as the effective date for new highway and motor vehicle laws. The 1963 Legislature raised the nighttime speed limit on interstates to 70 mph but enforcement remains under prior limits until September. Other changes include a 45 mph minimum on freeways and a ban on parking lights only on any highway, plus stricter equipment and reporting rules for commercial vehicles and occupants. Secretary James M Hare notes the laws align Michigan with national practices and improve road safety while some provisions target non passenger vehicle owners.
