The Michigan Department of State Highways approves a route location report for an 18.7 mile US 131 segment from 14 Mile Rd in Kent County to north of Howard City near M-46 in Montcalm County. Cost exceeds 14.8 million dollars with right of way. Hearings to be held in early 1966.

Winter keeps three rest areas open on I 75 and US 27
The Michigan Department of Highways says three safety rest areas on I 75 and US 27 between Houghton Lake and Mackinaw City will stay open all winter while five others of similar length are closed due to heavy snows. Rest rooms, phones and travel info will be available at Mackinaw City Travel Information Center until January 23.
