Shepherd Fire Department logged twenty runs from October 18, 1959 through November 1, 1960 under Fire Chief Tom Robe. The annual recap, in South Town Hall, shows six in the Village, four in Gee Town ship, seven in Chippewa Township and three in Lincoln Township with 30 firemen including the Chief. Total yearly payroll approved December 5 totaled 1 218.50, exceeding last year by 329.00.
The proclamation emphasizes nonmilitary and military defense, urging strong local civil defense units and citizen support to preserve peace. December 7 is designated Civil Defense Day to renew commitment to preparedness and national defense.
Dow Chemical Company selects Super Products of Shepherd for a 100000 dollar contract to supply processed corn cob carrier for Zytron as a lawn and soil product. Ray Amburn of Super Products leads development of corn cob uses and jobs at the Shepherd plant will rise with the new order.
The community recalls December 7 1941 as bombs fell on Pearl Harbor. Families with loved ones in Hawaii listened to radios as messages brought news. The Ladies Auxiliary VFW honors the date and the service members with a remembrance tribute.
The Argus office invites residents to pick up Christmas Seals if not received. Seals aid tuberculosis prevention, with the paper noting the program has saved millions of lives since its start. Seals distributed nationwide to fight TB.
Village reminds residents of ordinance banning parking on any street from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM from November 1st to April 1st. Workmen will remove snow efficiently with minimal confusion. Violators will be ticketed and fined with no warnings.
