Socials and visits brighten week in local towns
Mr and Mrs Ari Hungerford Mrs Nellie Bowman joined Mr and Mrs Harold Travis at Blue Lake Sunday to see Mr Wright who is much improved. The Broomfield Memorial Convalescent Hospital Auxiliary held an August 12 ice cream social raising funds for hospital furnishings. Mrs Tony Yates and daughter Suzanne visited Southfield near Detroit with Carl Baker and sons Scott and Micheal. Scott returned home with them for a week. Miss Roberta Clark visited her relatives near Grand Rapids and rural Shepherd then returned home. Mr William Whitman and Miss Vickey Allen called on Mr and Mrs Charles Clark in Shepherd with Allen staying for a few days. Mrs Bertha Knauss joined Arthur Grim for Lake Cadillac 75th Anniversary of the North Michigan Conference Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Rust and Hay Duane Phelps and daughters visited the Ionia Fair Wednesday evening. Craig Scramlin was on the sick list the past week. Mrs. Carl Downs of Lansing called on Peter W. Britten and daughter. Basil Britten and family vacationed with relatives in Riverdale. Beryl Scramlin visited her mother Mrs. Dean Sandel of Elwell. Residents commend Wednesday’s storm for doing no damage locally and extend sympathy to those who lost crops or suffered other losses.
