Phytogen Probes Genetic Engineering of Cotton Seed
Phytogen, a Pasadena based research arm of J D Boswell Corp, is advancing tissue culture cotton plants to outperform Acala varieties. At the CPCSD 47th Annual Meeting Elaine Commiskey outlined lab grown seed potential, field trials, and plans to send seed to Mexico before returning for trait development in California cotton. Researchers T S Rangar and Robbie Schipper assisted, with Dr H B Cooper observing lab grown plants thriving in hot San Joaquin Valley conditions. The effort aims to shorten variety development time and enhance yield disease resistance and fiber quality.
