300 Growers Attend CPCSD Field Day in Shafter
About 300 San Joaquin Valley cotton growers joined CPCSD for its 47th Annual Membership Meeting and Field Day at the Shafter station. Tours of the gin labs and fields, a barbecue, and talks by CPCSD leaders and government officials highlighted breeding goals, new Acala SJC-1 variety, and advances in glandless cotton and Phytogen tissue culture work. Plans include higher seed quality and predicted 1984 planting near 1,409,000 acres as carryover seed lowers costs.
