Night School Opens Here Next Monday at Shafter High
Adult night classes will start at Shafter High School next Monday with registrations this evening and tomorrow evening in the main office. Courses include beginning, bookkeeping, typing, elementary business English, public speaking, Spanish, mathematics and physical education. Army personnel will be accommodated with classes split between Bakersfield and Shafter locations and overseen by Shafter faculty.

George Gaede was named superintendent of Shafter city streets on a 30 day trial starting October 1. He will receive 125 dollars monthly and perform most street maintenance himself. Bean Crop Promises To Be Profitable In Shafter District
An estimated 1500 acres in the Shafter district are planted mainly to black eye beans with some baby limas and Chinese mung beans. Growers report good condition and a profitable season with heavy pod setting, while baby limas face a poorer outlook. Mung beans are small and dark. prices were contracted before planting. The Siemens and Hitchcock plant on Walker Street plans to begin cleaning in about two weeks, with operations lasting months and workers employed.

The Kern County Livestock Show in Bakersfield wrapped up with Shafter Future Farmers earning $4,135 in sales. First Shafter Cotton Ginned by D O Moore

Shafter Business Men's Association met Friday to advance a Lerdo road project from 99 to Shafter. Appointees Stringham Gaede Channeson and Neufeld will approach property owners for a 50 foot strip.
