Kern County Fair Opens With On-Grounds Parade Kickoff
The 50th anniversary fair features an On-The-Grounds Parade at 7 p.m. Friday from Belle Terrace to the Howard K. Dickson Pavilion for a tribute to founder Dickson. Festivities include cowboys, rodeo performances, and the Miss Kern County Fair Contest at 8:30 p.m. Outdoor Theater with crowning of one of 25 entrants.

Anderson heads Shafter recreation district campaign
Dave Anderson was named to head the campaign committee for the Shafter Recreation and Parks District. The measure, on the November 4 ballot, would tax at 25 cents per $100 of value and include Richland Lerdo and Maple districts. Heat lingers as autumn arrives in Shafter area
Fall settles in as heat remains with a forecast of 100 degrees by the U S Weather Service. Normal September 23 highs are 89.3 according to the USDA Cotton Research Station. The Shafter area records show high and low readings for the week ending Monday.
