City attorney Deitsch named chair of Public Law Section
Stephen P. Deitsch of Best Best & Krieger, based in Ontario, was elected chair of the Public Law Section of the State Bar of California. He serves as city attorney for Indian Wells, Big Bear Lake, Arcadia and Shafter and redevelopment counsel for Fontana, Ontario and Westminster. He pledged to boost resources and continuing education for public law practitioners during his one year term.

Peters retirement marks 22 years at Kern County Cemetery District
Eldalene Peters retired on August 31, 2009 after 22 years as Secretary and Bookkeeper for the Kern County Cemetery District, which runs Shafter and Wasco Cemeteries. Known for her cheery voice and hugs, she helped computerize burial records and accounting. She received the 2006 Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Shafter Chamber of Commerce.
