Truck Crash on 24th Street Spur Injures Passengers

At 11 10 a.m. a collision on the 24th Street Spur left all auto passengers with neck injuries. James J. Smith drove the automobile. the truck was heavily loaded and pushed the car 150 feet. Bakersfield police investigated the crash. All victims remain under medical care.

Original Research Project describes infecting pinto beans with tobacco necrosis virus. Preheated samples showed higher survival after hot water exposure, but six hours later the preheated viruses became more heat sensitive. Report submitted for evaluation.

Farm Bureau President Robert L. Smith announced Fred Starrh was elected chairman of the Shafter Farm Center. Art Penner is secretary and Everett Baker serves as board delegate. The center exceeded its 62 63 membership quota and Smith expects Shafter to continue leading in the year.
