Fastrip charges dropped in minor alcohol case
The Shafter Press reports that August 12 1980 saw charges against Fastrip employees May Jenkins and Ann Balderas dropped by the District Attorney. The case stemmed from alleged sales of alcohol to a minor after a vehicle with beer was stopped for a loud muffler and youths cited for curfew. The Deputy D A said the witness failure to appear led to dismissal and praised Shafter Police for their prior actions.

Wise Named Vice President of Shafter Chamber
George Wise of Wise Realty was chosen by the Shafter Chamber of Commerce Board to replace Gloria Boggs as Vice President after her resignation due to moving. Richland School Board approves staff, contracts and aides
The Richland School District Board of Trustees met Monday evening and approved a P E aide at the Jr High and Lee Carson as Vocal Music Teacher. Five temporary employees were approved plus a SCICON agreement with Tulare County funded from contingency. New job descriptions for custodians and a Senior Mechanic were approved, with a $500 yearly stipend for the head custodian. Enrollment for September 2 5 and 12 rose against last year.
