Women organize defense and relief program in Bakersfield area
Representatives from Shafter and surrounding areas met Sheriff John Eustalot to organize the women's division of a defense and emergency relief program. Volunteers will interview households to inventory spare beds and dishes for evacuees from Los Angeles and instruct residents on gas safety. A motor corps and a nine member board will govern the defense corps, with regional and at large leadership.

Woman 83 Returns Home After Seven Month Visit
Mrs. Mary Nugent 83 mother of John B. Nugent of Beech Street Columbus Indiana flew home from Shafter after seven months away. She was involved in an automobile accident in Shafter that injured her granddaughter Mrs. Don Fletcher and her great granddaughter.

Both gowns were white satin with trains long sleeves and sweetheart necklines.
