Elk Hills oil reserve could ease fuel shortage in California
The Elk Hills Naval Oil Reserve near Buttonwillow, a 46 000 acre field run by the Navy and Standard Oil since 1912, is urged to be tapped for civilian use to bolster energy supply. LNG from Pertamina and Mobil Indonesia could deliver 550 cubic feet daily to Southern California Gas, with regasified fuel moving through the Southern California system. Initial deliveries expected in 1978 pending regulatory approval.
