Hydroelectric Power Keeps Rates Low for PG E

PG E relies on five energy sources oil natural gas natural steam nuclear fuel and hydro to run turbo generators for its network. Hydro provides about half of US output in average rain years and does not contaminate or consume water, returning it to rivers for agriculture and other needs. Building hydro facilities is costly but economical to operate keeping rates among the nation’s lowest.

It argues oil and gas scarcity and higher prices justify nuclear power at Diablo Canyon, claiming two units could save millions of barrels of oil annually. It mentions PG&E's operation of The Geysers geothermal plant.
