Maple 4-H members gear up for the Kern County Fair with pigs sheep beef rabbits clothing foods arts crafts and entries in the Mini Garden and Scarecrow contests. They meet the second Monday each month at 7 pm in Maple School Cafeteria starting Sept 13 1999.
Kern County July 1999 building permits totalled 44.9 million dollars, down from 112.7 million in July 1998, largely due to last year’s 64 million private prison permit in California City. Year to date 1999 totals trail 1998 by about 46 million. Major local projects include a GAF Materials building in Shafter and storage bays for Acala Seeds, with continued activity in Delano and Wasco.
