Peterson praised Parks and Recreation crews for completing a Highway 46 rest area renovation in time for the holiday. He has patrolled the highway for 21 years and noted the revived park invites motorists to rest during long drives.

Cecil and Lurene Brown of Shafter celebrated their 64th anniversary on September 6 1999. Their life together began in Hot Springs Arkansas in 1935 and included work in Phoenix Bakersfield and Oregon. They raised four children and now share a room at Shafter Health Care while still enjoying walks and each other’s company.
