State Social Welfare Director Jack Wedemeyer outlined a series of welfare grant adjustments due to federal law changes. Counties can use proposed recipient notices with monthly grant checks, detailing program by program effects from September through January.
The fall gospel concert series opens at Harvey Auditorium Bakersfield Sunday Sept 19 at 2 p m with top quartets the Blackwood Brothers of Memphis and the Statesmen Quartet with Howie Lister of Atlanta. The program tours major CA cities. crowds from the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California attended the Bakersfield show. Gospel Concerts, a non profit group, sponsors.
Mr and Mrs S J Cutherell Sr of Merced visited their son and family at 315 Oak, staying a week to hunt doves with good success. Mr and Mrs William E Irvin, recently in Aptos, California, attend a Minnesota Mutual Life convention in Mexico City and vacationed at Gualalahara after the meeting. They joined Mr and Mrs Kenneth Buffington plus Janice and Larry from Riverside for a weekend with the Packards. Chuck Buffington, awaiting Air Force call, stayed two weeks with them.
California war veterans have taken out over 220 thousand Cal-Vet loans totaling 2.264 billion dollars since 1921. As of June 15 1965 director Joseph M Farber says 217 574 homes and 2 619 farms have been financed at no cost to taxpayers. The portfolio shows 125 907 home loans and 1 294 farm loans valued at 1 467 068 000 and 30 448 000 respectively with Kern County figures noted.
