Enterprise Pays Off In Dairying
A $2.5 million dairy farm near the Merced River showcases Peter Hilarides a Dutch migrant who built a 1400 head herd and ships milk to Royal Dutch Creameries in Monterey Park. He cites low urban risk and cheaper land water and taxes while managing 1300 acres and irrigation based waste disposal. His son-in-law Ray Waldhuis runs the operation with routes covering 25 retail and four wholesale outlets. In early 1966 Californians spent two billion dollars on tax exempt food fuel and prescription drugs.
