Generals show strong spirit as Shafter aims for season
Shafter High's Generals, led by coach Merv Huston, enter the 1978 season with deep talent and high morale. The squad, mostly last year’s JV players, features strong leadership and dual starting offensive depth while preparing for a Sept. 8 scrimmage with South High. A reduced roster follows Prop 13, dropping from 170 to 110 players and eliminating the JV team. Nearby dove hunting opens Sept. 1 with fair to good prospects in several valleys, per the California Department of Fish and Game.
