Elk Corporation selects Shafter for $30 million plant
Elk Corporation a Dallas based roofing shingle maker will build a 150000 square foot plant on an 87 acre site in Shafter at Lerdo Highway and Highway 99. The facility expected to employ 90 to 140 workers with payroll near 3 million dollars, citing access to labor and transport. John G Freshwater will be VP and GM. Local officials credit the project to ongoing strategic planning begun in 1990 by the city council and KCEDC with support from Kern County and Shafter officials.

Rollins' attorney disputes newspaper trial report
