The Class of 1994 reunion is set for November 22 at Riverlakes Golf Course. For details call Marlon at 304-4619. The event invites alumni to reconnect.
Shafter Christian Fellowship partners with Community Action Partnership of Kern to feed 150 families monthly. Doors open the third Sunday at 2 00 p m at 632 James St for the public. Pastor Justin at 661 496 5259 for details. The Shafter Ministerial Association hosts Trunk or Treat Halloween night 6 00 7 00 in Congregational Bible Church parking lot 430 E Tulare Ave. Call 746-2187 to decorate a trunk and enter the best decorated prize.
The Shafter Centennial celebration included sealing a city time capsule at the Police Department to be opened in 2038. Items include a 1938 audit, 2013 audit, October 2013 newspaper issues, centennial memorabilia, a signed scroll, and graded papers from Mike Svlitch’s class.

At the October 20 board meeting Richland School District recognized staff for years of service including Tracy Weddell with 29 years and Sherry Belloamini as Certificated Employee. Stan Wilson received the Education Partner Recognition for a $15,000 donation funding a fourth grade La Purisma Mission field trip. Elisa Marquez earned Classified Employee Recognition for upkeep of Sequoia Elementary. The STEAM Team reported attending the 2014 STEM Symposium and sharing plans to implement Science Engineering Arts and Mathematics district wide. The board approved a Sequoia fifth grade field trip to the California Science Center on November 14 2014 and the December 8 2014 organizational meeting. They boosted substitute pay from 110 to 125 per day and added 170 per day longevity pay after 21 days in serviceeach year. District events include Veterans Day closures November 11 and the next board meeting November 17 with Thanksgiving holidays November 27 and 28.
An inmate in Kern County Pre-Trial Facility identified as Sarah Lynn Martin, 34, of Bakersfield, was found unresponsive in her cell on October 23 at about 9 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Postmortem examination determined cause of death as Hanging and manner as death by own action.
Tony Mestar expands the Halloween display with new props electronics and pneumatics built largely by himself. He began concepts in July and starts building in August to minimize noise and disruption while budgeting with donations. Dozens visit recently and Tony and wife Lisa appreciate community support and continued interest.
At about 6:44 p.m. on October 19 an inmate at Kern County Sheriff's Lerdo Pretrial Facility was found unresponsive. He was 50 year old Reginald Glenn Hill of Bakersfield and later died at San Joaquin Community Hospital. A postmortem exam on October 21 pending toxicology and histology results to determine cause and manner of death.
