Dollar talks stabilize Allied currency system
The dollar backed by a 10.985 billion gold reserve leads a new Anglo French American currency stabilizing framework. Treasury officials say gold selling prices will be kept secret by France and England while the American price remains 35 dollars per fine ounce with 24 hour notice possible. Purchases from Britain or France will be by private negotiation and London market quotations may guide Britain. France has no free gold market and no fixed franc value yet. The scheme relies on stabilization funds and private deals to maintain internal prosperity.
