The Shafter Woman's Club welcomed Kim Kotrla who reviewed And Ladies of the Club by Helen Hoover Santmyer. Members approved raising lunch prices to 5.25, heard about Friends of the Shafter Library, and noted Kern Recycling Day on Oct 28 with plans to save recyclables.

Marine Pfc Webb completes jet engine basics training
Clinton D Webb son of Jake W and Nina J Webb of Shafter finished a five week Aviation Machinist's Mate Basic Jet Engine Course at the Naval Air Technical Training Center Millington Tennessee. He received instruction on jet engine characteristics and operation plus fuel systems and aircraft refueling procedures. He graduated Shafter High in 1987 and joined the Marine Corps in January 1989 serving with 3rd Marine Division at Camp Pendleton. Omelaz, son of Frank and Helen Omelaz Wasco, is a separate Wasco Union High School graduate from 1987.
